Your Care Team

Your Team for Birth and Beyond…

Navigating pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period is a profound experience that requires more than just clinical medical care.

At The Chaun Collective, we believe in a holistic, extended care team—a circle of support that addresses not only your physical health, but also your emotional, informational, and functional well-being.

Visualizing Your Circle of Care

The ideal care model places the birthing person at the center, surrounded by complementary professionals who support different facets of their journey.

Circle of Care

Birth & Postpartum Doula

The doula is the constant presence on your team wherever your reproductive journey takes you—pregnancy, birth, and through postpartum.

  • Role: An experienced, trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and immediately after childbirth.

  • What they do:

    • Offer evidence-based childbirth and lactation education to help you make informed decisions.

    • Provide comfort measures & labor techniques (massage, counter-pressure, positional changes) during labor.

    • Serve as an advocate for your birth plan and preferences whether at home, a birth center, or hospital.

    • Offer emotional support and practical assistance during the postpartum period (up to 1 year).

  • The Chaun Collective Difference: Our community-based doulas are trained in The Chaun Method, providing trauma-informed, culturally humble care grounded in traditional birthing practices. We offer steady, skilled support tailored to help you feel informed, confident, and cared for throughout your perinatal journey.

Lactation Consultant / Specialist (Feeding Support)

Feeding—whether by breast, chest, or bottle—can be one of the biggest challenges in the fourth trimester. Your lactation professional offers expert guidance.

  • Role: A specialist trained to provide education, support and management of human lactation and breastfeeding/chestfeeding.

  • What they do:

    • Assess feeding challenges (latch, pain, low supply).

    • Create customized feeding plans for complex situations (preemies, multiples, medical issues).

    • Identify potential issues like tongue-ties and refer to appropriate specialists.

    • Support successful bottle-feeding and pumping routines.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist (Functional Recovery)

Often overlooked, the recovery of the core and pelvic floor muscles is vital for long-term health and well-being after birth.

  • Role: A licensed physical therapist with specialized training in the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic bowl.

  • What they do:

    • Assess abdominal separation (diastasis recti).

    • Treat pain, pressure, and leakage issues related to the pelvic floor.

    • Help rebuild core strength safely and effectively postpartum.

    • Provide exercises and manual therapy to prepare the body for birth.

Perinatal Mental Health Therapist (Emotional Well-being)

Pregnancy and postpartum are periods of intense hormonal and emotional change. A dedicated mental health professional is key to processing these shifts.

  • Role: A licensed counselor or therapist specializing in the unique psychological challenges of the perinatal period, including Postpartum Depression and Anxiety (PPA/PPD).

  • What they do:

    • Provide a safe space to discuss fears, trauma, and relationship shifts.

    • Offer screening and management for mood and anxiety disorders.

    • Help navigate the emotional transitions of parenthood.
